一篇高質(zhì)量的Personal Essay怎么寫？

　　meeloun每次幫助學(xué)生或者客戶edit升大學(xué)的personal essay或獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金申請(qǐng)書，都一定要和大家分享一下，如何可以開始edit？因?yàn)閙eeloun（essay.lxws.net）希望要了解興趣同passion、有什么理由非要申請(qǐng)這個(gè)學(xué)位不可呢？這樣才有可能寫出超神的申請(qǐng)信。為什么要超神？Admission officer每天都要讀幾十封信，如果寫的一般，怎么會(huì)有interview的機(jī)會(huì)呢？那到底該怎么寫呢？請(qǐng)往下看：

　　1.Throw away the templates.

　　網(wǎng)上可以找到很多申請(qǐng)信的樣板，但是，Your essay should be unique,and uniquely you.文字是否出于真心，讀者都看得出。

　　2.Show,don't just tell.

　　是人都能讀懂的廉價(jià)形容詞，可以省省了。什么creative thinker、great attention to detail、logically-minded這些好像對(duì)住admission requirements照抄的詞，誰(shuí)不懂寫？寫了，哪會(huì)有用？不是說這些qualities都沒有用，只是你要找方法說服你的reader，你的確擁有這些qualities。要stories and concrete examples,colourful examples that can help your reader depict what kind of person you are。人人都懂得吹的廢話，請(qǐng)盡量減少。

　　3.Don't be afraid to market yourself.

　　很多人其實(shí)并不了解自己。舉個(gè)例，有個(gè)學(xué)生想申請(qǐng)獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金到外國(guó)修讀mass communication的碩士課程。他在某大電臺(tái)任職，負(fù)責(zé)節(jié)目制作，多年制作過不少很受歡迎而獨(dú)一無(wú)二的節(jié)目。寫申請(qǐng)信時(shí)一定要多花力氣介紹電臺(tái)（國(guó)內(nèi)的電視，外國(guó)人未必知道）及談?wù)勊盍餍械墓?jié)目，例如獲得的獎(jiǎng)項(xiàng)、節(jié)目受歡迎程度，以及其他特別之處。這跟所報(bào)科目有關(guān)，也能表現(xiàn)能力，應(yīng)該多講多sell。

　　4.Show your unique insight into the field.

　　寫你對(duì)學(xué)科或行業(yè)的獨(dú)特見解，或特別能力。見解很重要，因?yàn)槟鼙憩F(xiàn)你對(duì)學(xué)科的認(rèn)識(shí)、興趣、insight和passion。舉個(gè)例，如果Dueduedue要報(bào)道Master's in Linguistics或Teaching English as a Second Language，不能只寫I'm very passionate about English teaching。我會(huì)講我有什么在英文教學(xué)界「人無(wú)我有」的經(jīng)驗(yàn)，或?qū)颇坑惺裁磇nsight。例如我會(huì)先講自己工作獨(dú)特之處：

　　I consider myself a specialist in the English teaching industry—I help business executives and professionals improve their spoken English.I work with them on all aspects of their oral English,from pronunciation to speech delivery.Instead of limiting myself to the teaching of articulation,I focus a lot on improving the prosodic features of my clients'English speech,namely,speech rhythm and intonation—areas that many English teachers find difficult,if not impossible,to teach.

　　然后再elaborate：為什么rhythm and intonation對(duì)大家來說特別難學(xué)，自己有什么特別的教法等等，顯出對(duì)自己科目的見解。當(dāng)然，最后還要扣題，講清楚why studying linguistics at the postgraduate level will help me achieve my goals(doing further research into pronunciation teaching and devising new ways of teaching).
